Vintage Jazz Revival was formed when Rob Jones returned to live in the Ludlow area in Spring 2016.
Vintage Jazz Revival comprises 6 widely experienced musicians who have been playing in bands all their adult lives; two of us live locally (Ludlow) two in Herefordshire, and two just over the border in Wales.
Many of the tunes we play will be instantly recognisable to people of all ages and have been covered by bands and musicians up to recent times. See our repertoire here
Our line up is Trumpet, Soprano Sax, Trombone, Banjo or Piano,Tuba and Drums.
We only use amplification for vocals as we all dislike the modern trend of ear splitting volume,
which is completely unnecessary with our type of instruments.
We are not a 'loud band' and are ideal for background, unobtusive playing at your function and can also provide entertaining music to
a seated audience, even in smaller venues even at acceptable volume, enabling you to converse and not having to shout!
As our name suggests our repertoire is based on
the jazz of New Orleans from the late 1800's of “ Dixieland “ through to the era of Trad. Jazz in the 1920's, 30's and 40's, even covering material from the Jazz Revival of the early 1960's.
Most of our pieces are the well known popular foot tapping songs from the 20's and 30's from Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, George Gershwin, Sidney Bechet, Bessie Smith, Paul Whiteman etc. with a few more modern ones thrown in from the likes of Chris
Barber, Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball.
We can also include some pieces from the very early 1900's such as Muskrat Ramble, Basin Street Blues, Careless Love, Gettysburg March, Creole Love
But we usually play a selection of later well known numbers such as :- My Blue Heaven, Georgia, All Of Me, Sheik of Araby, Pennies From Heaven, Five Foot Two, Bring Me Sunshine,
etc. which were popular standards of the 20's through to the 50's.
We play regularly in this area at functions such as private parties, weddings, vintage dances, parades, fetes/galas
etc: and can be seen most Tuesday evening at the Rose and Crown in Ludlow from 8:30pm in the bar. Free entry.
We are always pleased to welcome guest players.
We have a slightly different style to most New Orlean/Trad. Jazz bands as we include vocals and harmonising
duets in many of our songs.
We are unique in this part of the Midlands and our fees are very reasonable. ( from £250 )
